If you graduated in Spring 2023, remember that your 60-day grace period ends on August 08, 2023. During your grace period, you have a few options to consider:
- apply for OPT:
Your OPT application must be received by USCIS by August 08. Remember: you can remain in the U.S. while your application is being processed by USCIS.
- transfer to another school:
If you plan to study at another school, you can transfer your immigration record to that school.
- change your education level:
If you plan to start a new degree at UW, you may need to submit a Change of Level request in MyISSS.
- depart the U.S.:
You can use your grace period to travel within the U.S. and prepare for departure. Once you depart, you cannot re-enter using your I-20.
- apply to change immigration status:
If interested in moving from the F-1 status to another immigration status, you should consult an immigration attorney.
Current processing times for ISS are around 2 weeks, so if you need to submit an OPT I-20 request, SEVIS Transfer Out request, or Change of Level request, please do so in MyISSS as soon as possible. For those departing the United States, we wish you safe travels!
