How are Estimated Expenses Calculated?

General Notes

  1. Four quarters tuition is at the Autumn 2022 rate, per the UW Office of Planning & Budgeting Quarterly Tuition and Fees files.
  2. Living expenses are calculated from the 2022-2023 Student Budget Nine-Month Expenses. (Textbooks and course supplies, rent, utilities and food, personal and miscellaneous, and transportation).
Undergraduate students are calculated using the “Living on/off campus” rate.
  3. Dependent expenses are calculated from the 2022-23 Student Budget Nine-Month Expenses using the “Students with dependents” rate, based on the following factors:

Spouse = [(35% of rent, utilities and food) + personal and miscellaneous + transportation] (this is a 9-month figure converted to 12 months).
Child = Figure based on the Department of Education needs analysis EFC Formula (pdf), 2020-2021
