How are Estimated Expenses Calculated?

General Notes

  1. Tuition amounts used above are based on the 2023-2024 quarterly tuition & fee rates per the UW Office of Planning & Budgeting Tuition & Fees Dashboards.
  2. Living expenses are calculated from the 2023-2024 Student Budget Nine-Month Expenses. (Textbooks and course supplies, rent, utilities and food, personal and miscellaneous, and transportation). Living expenses for all undergraduate students are calculated using the “Living on/off campus” rate.
  3. Dependent expenses are calculated from the 2023-24 Student Budget Nine-Month Expenses using the “Students with dependents” rate, based on the following factors:
    1. Spouse = [(35% of rent, utilities and food) + personal and miscellaneous + transportation] (this is a 9-month figure converted to 12 months).
    2. Child = Figure based on the Department of Education needs analysis EFC Formula (pdf)
