Spring is in the air! That means longer days and blooming flowers but also rising stress levels for students on the job or internship hunt. The good news? Many students successfully secure positions during the spring quarter with the right approach.
Here are some key tips to help you succeed:
Know Your Work Authorization—ASAP!
- Understanding your work authorization (OPT, CPT) is crucial for an effective job search and clear communication with employers.
- Start by watching ISS videos, then meet with an ISS advisor to get guidance tailored to your situation.
Meet with a Career Coach—More Than Once!
- Career coaches can help refine your resume, conduct mock interviews, and clarify what roles to apply for.
- Take advantage of their expertise and moral support throughout the spring quarter!
Leverage Your Network—And Expand It!
- In the U.S., networking often plays a major role in landing interviews.
- In addition to career fairs, reach out to professors, TAs, and even friends of friends to uncover new opportunities.
Search Smart—Use the Right Tools at the Right Time.
- Focus on positions posted within the past week or two to increase your chances.
- Use resources like FrogHire.ai and Interstride to save time searching for the right companies.
Stay Resilient—And Take Care of Yourself.
- Securing a job often takes more applications than expected – persistence is key!
- Set realistic goals (e.g., apply to five positions per day) and establish a schedule that works for you.
- Remember you’re not alone! Join our upcoming career panel to hear insights from international alumni who’ve been in your shoes.
With consistent effort in these five areas, you can land an opportunity that’s right for you.
