As winter quarter 2025 approaches, it’s time to make sure you meet the enrollment requirements to maintain your F-1 or J-1 status. Follow these guidelines to ensure you remain in compliance with immigration regulations:
Full-Time Enrollment Requirements
F-1 and J-1 students must be enrolled full-time during the academic year. For most students, this means:
- Undergraduate students: A minimum of 12 credits.
- Graduate students: Typically a minimum of 10 credits (or fewer if you enrolled in thesis or dissertation coursework).
Online Course Limitations
You may include only 1 online course towards the above mentioned enrollment requirements. Additionally, you can never register in only online coursework.
Important Dates for Winter Quarter 2025
- First day of classes: January 06, 2025
- Add code required: Beginning January 13, 2025
- Full-time registration deadline: January 19, 2025
You can review the OUR Academic Calendar for additional dates and details.
Reduced Course Loads (RCL)
If you believe you qualify for an RCL due to academic, medical, or final-quarter reasons, you must receive approval from ISS before dropping below full-time enrollment. Submit the RCL request form through your MyISSS portal as soon as possible.
