Meet Our Advisors: Jennifer

You may already know our newest International Student Advisor, Jennifer! Previously our dedicated Program Coordinator overseeing our front desk and team of student assistants, Jennifer has now joined our advising team. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce her in this new role!

Are you from Seattle? If not, where are you from and how did you end up in Seattle?

I was born in Seattle and moved around different cities in Washington growing up. When I was 15, I moved to Germany with family and lived there until I was 19. Afterwards, I attended UW remotely during COVID and then moved back to Seattle in 2021.

What inspired you to work with international students?

When I was younger, I attended a language program where I spent a year with classmates from all over the world. While attending UW, I started working at the ISS office as a student assistant. Once graduating, I was lucky to be offered a position at ISS as a staff member.

Where have you lived or traveled, and do you have a favorite place?

I traveled around a bit of Europe while I lived in Germany, but I have not been abroad since. I would love to visit each continent at least once. I am also trying to visit more states in the U.S. as I’ve only been to ten so far.

What resources or support services do you recommend students take advantage of?

When I was in undergrad, I took advantage of the Writing Centers available on campus. There are general writing centers (like OWRC), but some academic departments have their own specific writing centers as well. The writing centers can help with each phase of the writing process – whether you are stuck brainstorming or just want a review of your final draft.

Do you have any pets? What are their names and would you share their pictures with us?

I currently live with one of my cats, Frankie. At home with family, I have two other cats, Tina and Amber, and a dog, Douglas.
