Getting ready for Tax Season

Tax season is upon us! By now, you may have started to see messages from tax preparation companies and you may have even received your W-2 tax form from your employer. While ISS is not able to meet with you about or advise you on your tax obligations, we provide information to all students about filing their taxes.

ISS recommends for all students who were studying at the University of Washington on an F-1 or J-1 visa in 2022 to file taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

We have general information about which forms to use on our website.

  • Students who did not work in the U.S. during 2022 complete form 8893.
  • Students who did work complete one of the 1040 forms along with form 8893.

Students who have ended their programs but resided in the U.S. during 2022 are still encouraged to file their taxes.

As tax compliance is separate from immigration compliance, ISS is not able to give advice on the impacts of not filing taxes nor can we review your tax forms with you. We do support your understanding of taxes by providing general tax information on our website and paying for the Glacier Tax Prep software for you to use.
