International Student Services (ISS) staff are happy to welcome more than 8,000 new and returning international students to the Seattle campus. We know that the beginning of the academic year is an exciting but busy time for you. With that said, we wanted to take some time to help you understand your enrollment requirements for the upcoming quarter.
Credit Requirements
- Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 12 credits per a quarter.
- Graduate students typically must enroll in at least 10 credits per a quarter.
Note: 1 credit of 700- or 800-level thesis/dissertation coursework meets immigration enrollment requirements. Talk with your academic department/adviser if they have additional enrollment requirements.

Online Course Restrictions
The U.S. government ended its COVID-19 flexibilities related to online courses. This means that only 1 online course may count towards your enrollment requirements outlined above.
Graduating in Autumn 2023
If you are graduating Autumn 2023 and do not need a full course load to complete your program, you can be authorized for Final Quarter Reduced Course Load authorization. Apply for a FQRCL in MyISSS no later than September 27, 2023. We encourage you to read through our Final Quarter checklist to prepare for your last quarter.
Note: your final quarter credit cannot be only online or CPT credit.
