Overview
You can request Medical Reduced Course Load authorization to register part-time or take the quarter off for a documented medical reason. Accepted Healthcare providers must be a licensed medical doctor, psychiatrist, doctor of osteopathy, licensed psychologist, or clinical psychologist.
How to Apply
It’s important that you that you consult your health provider if you are considering applying for a Medical Reduced Course Load. They will need to provide a letter of recommendation for your RCL request. Review the Medical RCL Letter Template, if needed. Accepted Healthcare providers must be a licensed medical doctor, psychiatrist, doctor of osteopathy, licensed psychologist, or clinical psychologist. If your provider is a Registered Nurse Practitioner (RNP) or another medical professional, there must be a second signature from an accepted healthcare provider. An ISS adviser will approve the letter only if it is on official letterhead and/or has an official seal.
Submit the RCL- Medical Reasons request through the MyISSS portal. You must upload a copy of your medical RCL letter.
Allow 2-3 weeks for ISS processing. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email. At this point, you can drop your classes as needed.
Other Considerations
- Medical RCLs can only be authorized up to 4 quarters.
- You must submit a Medical RCL authorization request for each quarter. It cannot be authorized for more than 1 quarter at a time.
