Meet with an Adviser

Group F-1 Advising & Information Sessions | General F-1 Student Advising | General J-1 Student Advising

ISS advisors support you in a variety of ways. Advisers create learning tools for the website and plan out important information sessions. Your advisers also update the website content to ensure you have accurate advising information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Advisers also spend much of their week meeting with students through group advising or drop-in advising shifts. We encourage you to seek out the information and advising support that helps meet your needs. All of our advising sessions and services are listed below and can also be found on the ISS Events calendar.

Group F-1 Advising & Information Sessions

ISS Advisers will be offering information sessions to students on F-1 visas about employment topics. We encourage any student interested in CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT to visit a group advising session before attending drop-ins. In group advising, you’ll be able to learn from advisors and hear your peers’ questions.

J-1 students may make appointments with their J-1 adviser if they live outside of the Seattle area or if they have difficulty visiting Schmitz Hall to meet in person. Appointments are limited and require advanced planning. To make an appointment with your J-1 adviser, you can follow these steps:

  • Submit a J-1 Appointment Request Form.
    • Appointments may be requested with 48 hours advance notice. (Note that ISS does not work over the weekend.)
    • The J-1 adviser will email you an appointment confirmation when your appointment is scheduled.
    • Note: Students on F-1 visas should not use the link above and should meet with an advisor during the 14 hours of drop-ins provided by ISS each week.
