Meet with an Advisor

General F-1 Employment WorkshopGroup F-1 Advising & Information Sessions | General F-1 Student Advising | General J-1 Student Advising

ISS advisors support you in a variety of ways. Advisors create learning tools for the website and plan out important information sessions. Your advisors also update the website content to ensure you have accurate advising information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Advisors also spend much of their week meeting with students through group advising or drop-in advising shifts. We encourage you to seek out the information and advising support that helps meet your needs. All of our advising sessions and services are listed below and can also be found on the ISS Events calendar.

Autumn Quarter 2022

General F-1 Employment In-Person Workshop

In this F-1 General Employment Workshop, ISS advisors will share details about on-campus employment, Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and the 24-month STEM Extension.

  • Date & Time: October 13th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM
  • Location: ECE 105

Group F-1 Advising & Information Sessions

ISS Advisors will be offering information sessions to students on F-1 visas about employment topics. We encourage any student interested in CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT to visit a group advising session before attending drop-ins. In group advising, you’ll be able to learn from advisors and hear your peers’ questions.

General F-1 Student Drop-In Advising

When students visit drop-in advising hours, they should expect to have approximately 10 minutes with an advisor. If the consultation goes more than 10 minutes, the advisor may refer the student to a specialized appointment (for change of status or regaining status cases). Or, the advisor may give the student homework to complete so they can better understand their immigration situation.

Note: These hours are only for F-1 Students.
