All about MyISSS

As an F or J international student, staying on top of your immigration requirements is an important part of your student experience. To help you manage this, the University uses MyISSS, your dedicated online immigration portal.

What is MyISSS?

MyISSS (pronounced “my I-triple-S“) is your resource for immigration-related request forms and information. This resource allows you to submit requests to the ISS office, view information related to your F or J immigration record, and receive communications from our office.

The ISS landing page includes important dates and events for F and J international students
The Requests and Documents tab houses student documents like I-20s and requests that can be submitted to the ISS office.

What Can You Do in MyISSS?

Through MyISSS, you can take care of a few things. For example:

  • Review notes from your advising appointments with ISS
  • Check important dates and events including registration deadlines and ISS information sessions
  • Submit requests to ISS including work authorization, enrollment exceptions, and travel signatures
  • Request an extension to your I-20 or DS-2019
  • Access letters or documentation issued by ISS including your most recently issued I-20 or DS-2019

All of this can be done online, making it easier to manage your immigration needs without having to visit the office in person for routine updates.

Understanding Request Statuses

When you submit a request in MyISSS, you’ll see a status next to it. This lets you know where your request is in the process. Common statuses include:

  • Draft: You have started or saved a request to complete at a later time. It has not been submitted.
  • Approver Review: Your request has been sent to an external reviewer (i.e., your academic advisor) for approval. ISS cannot process your request until your department has done their part.
  • Submitted: Your request has been assigned to ISS advisor for review.
  • Clarification Requested: More information is needed in order to complete your request. Check your email for specific details.
  • Dismissed: Your request was incomplete, or you are otherwise ineligible. Check your email for specific details and next steps.
  • Approved: An ISS staff member has reviewed your request and submitted it to the government database, SEVIS, for validation.
  • Completed: The request has been validated by SEVIS. If there was a document associated with your request (a new I-20 or DS-2019), the document is ready for you. This is the final status message for successful requests.

Checking these statuses regularly will help you stay informed and know when action is required on your part or from your academic advisor.

Make it a habit to log in to MyISSS whenever you need to take care of an immigration task. It’s the most reliable way to keep your information up to date and ensure you’re meeting U.S. government and university requirements.
