As many of you prepare to return to Seattle for the 2025–26 academic year, we know this summer brought significant changes to immigration policies that affect F and J students. International Student Services (ISS) is committed to keeping you informed and supported as you navigate these updates. USCIS Expands Discretionary Factors in Benefit Requests


On August 19, 2025 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released updated policy guidance that clarifies how officers evaluate discretionary factors when adjudicating certain immigration benefit requests. This includes applications for changes of status, reinstatement, and employment authorization.

Updating Contact Information

If you're changing your place of residence this year, remember that this must be reported to ISS. You can do so by updating your local address in MyUW. Address changes must be reported within 10 days.

Preparing to Return to the UW

As you get ready to return to the UW for the 2025-2026 academic year, here are a few important reminders to help you stay on track with your immigration status and have another successful year.
