Congratulations on completing the 2025–26 academic year! Whether you are continuing your studies or celebrating graduation, we hope you take a moment to recognize all that you have accomplished this year. We would especially like to congratulate the students who graduated over the weekend, and we wish you success in your next chapter.

If you will be returning to UW next year, summer is a great time to think about your plans. Most continuing students take an annual vacation quarter if eligible. Be sure to check out the summer vacation quarter blog post included in this newsletter to learn more about your enrollment options.

For students who have completed their programs, remember that your status includes a grace period following program completion. Depending on your immigration status, you may have a 60-day (F-1) or 30-day (J-1) grace period to prepare for your next steps, such as beginning authorized employment, starting a new academic program, or departing the United States.

Update on USCIS Review of Certain Benefit Applications
A U.S. federal judge has declared U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Benefits Hold Policy, Asylum Hold Policy, Comprehensive Re-Review Policy, and Country-Specific Factors Policy to be unlawful. The June 5 decision vacates the USCIS policy to halt all benefit requests for applicants from “high-risk” countries subject to an entry ban.

For many students, the summer vacation quarter is an opportunity to rest, travel, work, or focus on personal goals. As an F-1 or J-1 international student, you may have several options for summer quarter, but it’s important to understand the immigration requirements before making plans.
