The ISHIP Office receives many questions from new students ranging from when does coverage start to how to get you insurance card. We have prepared a list of things to know for all new students arriving for Autumn quarter. Check out the New Student Checklist to find answers to your general questions.

LifeWise Welcome Email
You will receive a Welcome Email from LifeWise during the first week of September. The LifeWise Welcome Email will:
|
- Provide you with your LifeWise insurance ID number
- Provide you with a link to create your LifeWise account. Check out our step-by-step guide for creating your account!
- Ask you to check that your local mailing address is correct to ensure you receive mail from LifeWise
- Include guidance on how to activate your dependent's coverage, if applicable
|
Please be sure to check your spam folder in case the Welcome Email ends up there.

Get the LifeWise ISHIP Mobile App
LifeWise Insurance offers a mobile app that makes it easier than ever to access your ISHIP coverage. The mobile app lets you:

- Access your digital insurance ID card
- See a list of your prescription medications
- Find an in-network doctor in your area
- Review your medical costs, savings, and claims
In order to successfully create your account, you will need to:

- Register for quarterly classes
- Update your local U.S. mailing address on your MYUW account. Please wait 2-3 business days after updating your address to create your account to ensure the address update has reached LifeWise systems
- Know your insurance ID number (you can find this in the Welcome Email from LifeWise)
- Have your mobile app store location set to the U.S.

We are excited to welcome Phoebe as our new ISHIP Student Assistant. Meet Phoebe below:

Hi everyone! My name is Phoebe Le, and I'm excited to join the ISHIP Office as a Student Assistant. I'm from Hanoi, Vietnam, and I'm currently pursuing a double degree in Business Administration (Information Systems & Supply Chain) and Financial Economics at the University of Washington. As an international student, I understand both the excitement and the challenges of studying in a new country. That's one of the reasons I'm so excited to be part of the ISHIP team, where I can support fellow international students and help create a welcoming, connected community. Outside of work, I enjoy organizing events for my RSO (ViSA), exploring Seattle's food scene, cooking, traveling, playing pickleball, and spending time with friends. Whether you have questions or just want to chat, I'd love to meet you. Feel free to stop by the office in Room 304 at the Husky Health Center and say hello!

Need Vaccines? Go to a Vaccine Clinic
The Immunization Verification Program (IVP) sponsors a series of vaccine clinics during Autumn quarter where you can get all the vaccines you need in one place. ISHIP and LifeWise representatives will be available to assist you during many of the vaccine clinics. Preventative vaccines, such as MMR, HPV, Meningitis, COVID, or Flu are fully covered when administered at one of the vaccine clinics, at your campus clinic, or at an in-network provider.

Make an appointment for a vaccine clinic or get more information here. Please make sure to have your insurance ID card with you in physical or digital format when you attend the vaccine clinics!

ISHIP Waiver Program
Enrolling in ISHIP is a requirement for all F-1 and J-1 international students. This occurs automatically when you register for classes. If you have enrolled in ISHIP and believe you may qualify for a waiver of the ISHIP requirement, you must submit your insurance waiver request online form no later than 1pm on October 16th (tuition due date).

ISHIP Autumn 2026 Services
For Autumn quarter, we will be offering in-person advising and zoom-based virtual front desk (VFD) to support you as you start the quarter.
|
- In-Person Advising: Monday - Friday, 10AM - 4PM (Husky Health Center, Room 304). Please note in-person advising is closed from 12PM - 1PM daily
- Virtual Front Desk (VFD): Wednesday and Friday, 9AM - 11 AM
