Insurance Cards for New Students
You will use your LifeWise insurance card as your proof of insurance whenever you need to see a doctor. Some things to keep in mind for Autumn:
|
- LifeWise started mailing insurance cards to new students the week of September 14th.
- You must register for classes in order to activate your insurance. If you registered after September 14th, you won't receive your card until the week after you register.
- Please make sure to update your local mailing address in your MYUW account to ensure you receive your card.
- If you have already registered and need to see a doctor prior to receiving your insurance card, download the LifeWise Mobile App and use your digital insurance card as proof of insurance.
- If you have registered for classes, updated your mailing address, and have not received your insurance card after the week of September 14th, request a new card in your LifeWise portal account or use the digital card in the Mobile App. Check out our guide for ordering a new insurance card here!

Post-Arrival Resource Fair on Sept 24th!
ISHIP and LifeWise representatives will be attending the post-arrival resource fair on Thursday, Sept 24th at the HUB North Ballroom. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get help with your medical insurance.
|
At the post-arrival resource fair, you can also:

- Get required vaccines at the vaccine clinic. Make sure to schedule an appointment ahead of time!
- Speak to International Student Services about your visa questions
- Set up bank accounts and phone plans
- Meet and take pictures with our beloved Husky mascot DUBS

What's New with ISHIP for 2026-2027?
Here are some of the benefit changes you can expect:
|
- The vision hardware benefit has decreased from $300 to $200 for glasses or contacts
- The quarterly deductible has increased from $100 to $125. Remember, if you visit your campus clinic, the quarterly deductible is waived

Information for Autumn Quarter GAIP Enrollees
The Graduate Appointee Insurance Plan (GAIP) is insurance provided to students with eligible appointments such as teaching assistants, research assistants, tutors, predoctoral researchers, and other academic student employees. International students who have GAIP-eligible appointments do not have to enroll or pay for ISHIP coverage.

- GAIP coverage begins on October 1st
- GAIP enrollees receive ISHIP coverage for the month of September until GAIP coverage takes effect. GAIP enrollees do not pay for September ISHIP coverage
- ISHIP enrollment will automatically cancel during the week of October 1st when GAIP coverage begins. If your ISHIP enrollment does not cancel by the end of the week of October 1st, please reach out to the GAIP Office at uwgaip@uw.edu

Activating Dependent Coverage
If you have elected to add dependents to your ISHIP coverage, please remember that activating dependent coverage is a two-step process:

- Step 1: On Register.UW, on the Student Government and International Insurance page, indicate the number and type of dependents being added
- Step 2: Follow the instructions provided in the LifeWise Welcome Email:
- Log in to your LifeWise account
- Go to Enroll Family Members
- Enter the required information

LifeWise Representatives at Husky Health Center
|
LifeWise representatives will be available in-person for drop-in assistance at Husky Health Center on the UW Seattle Campus in October! They will be available October 1st - 2nd and 5th - 6th from 10am to 1pm in Room G81 on the basement level.
