Are You A New Student? Review our Checklist
The ISHIP Office receives many questions from new students ranging from when does coverage start to how to get you insurance card. We have prepared a list of things to know for all new students arriving for Autumn quarter. Check out the New Student Checklist to find answers to your general questions.

If you can't find what you are looking for, come visit us in-person at Husky Health Center Room 304 or through our Virtual Front Desk. Check the ISHIP Website for most current office hours.

Insurance Cards for New Students
You will use your LifeWise insurance card as your proof of insurance whenever you need to see a doctor. Some things to keep in mind for Autumn:
|
- LifeWise insurance cards will be mailed to new students the week of 9/18.
- You must register for classes in order to activate your insurance. If you plan to register after 9/18 you won't receive your card until the week after you register.
- Please make sure to update your local mailing address in your MYUW account to ensure you receive your card.
- If you have already registered, and need to see a doctor prior to 9/18, download the LifeWise Mobile App and use your digital insurance card on the App as proof of insurance.
- If you have registered for classes, updated your mailing address, and have not received your insurance card the week of 9/18, call LifeWise customer service at 800-971-1491 to request a new card or use the digital card on the Mobile App.

Post-Arrival Resource Fair on Sept 18th!
ISHIP and LifeWise representatives will be attending the post-arrival resource fair on Wednesday, Sept 18th at the HUB North Ballroom. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get help with your medical insurance.
|
In addition to ISHIP and LifeWise you can also:

- Get required vaccines at the vaccine clinic booth
- Speak to International Student Services on your visa questions
- Set up bank accounts and phone plans
- Meet and take pictures with our beloved Husky mascot DUBS
|

Which Medical Services are Fully Covered?
You have a variety of different benefits, some of which are partially covered and others which are fully covered. The following services are fully covered when administered at your campus clinic or an in-network provider:
|
- Annual/physical exams
- Preventative vaccines, such as MMR, HPV, Meningitis, COVID, or Flu.
- Birth control (pill or IUD device)
- Outpatient Mental Health therapy visits (in-person or virtual)

Need Vaccines? Go to a Vaccine Clinic
The Immunization Program sponsors a series of walk-in vaccine clinics during Autumn quarter, where you can get all the vaccines you need in one place. ISHIP and LifeWise representatives will be available to assist you during any of the scheduled vaccine clinics.

Get the LifeWise ISHIP Mobile App
LifeWise Insurance offers a mobile app that makes it easier than ever to access your ISHIP coverage. The mobile app lets you:
|
- Access your digital insurance ID card
- See a list of your prescription medications
- Find an in-network doctor in your area
- Review your medical costs and savings
In order to successfully create your app account, you will need to:
|
- Register for quarterly classes
- Have a local mailing address in the U.S.
- Update your local mailing address on your MYUW account
|

ISHIP Waiver Program
Enrolling in ISHIP is a requirement for all F-1 and J-1 international students. This occurs automatically when you register for classes. If you have enrolled in ISHIP and believe you may qualify for a waiver of the ISHIP requirement, you must submit your insurance waiver request online form no later than 1pm on October 10th (tuition due date).

ISHIP Autumn 2025 Services
For Autumn quarter, we will be offering in-person advising and zoom-based virtual front desk to support you as you start the quarter.
|
- In-Person Advising: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 8AM - 5PM (Husky Health Center, Room 304)
- Virtual Front Desk: Wednesday and Friday, 9-11 AM
Note: the VFD is intended for quick answers on general questions and to connect you to resources you need. If you have need assistance on a more complex issue, please see us for in-person advising or email the ISHIP Office at stdins@uw.edu so we can arrange a full advising appointment.
