Vacation Eligibility for Summer Quarter

Eligibility Criteria

If you can answer yes to all three questions:

  • Did you enroll full-time for autumn quarter 2019, winter quarter 2020, and spring quarter 2020?
  • Do you intend to register full-time for autumn quarter 2020 and beyond?
  • Did you work on-campus less than 20 hours per week for autumn quarter 2019, winter quarter 2020, and spring quarter 2020?

Then, you qualify for the annual vacation quarter this summer. This means you are not required to register full-time in summer quarter.

NOTE: If you have a summer teaching or research assistant position and you will enroll for 2 credits, this is normally considered a regular quarter. However, if you will work more than 20 hours per week during summer quarter, it will be counted as your annual vacation quarter for immigration purposes.

If your MyUW account shows a full-time enrollment warning message, you can ignore it if you qualify for an exception–the annual vacation quarter. For more information about other exceptions to the full-time enrollment rule, review the F-1 full-time enrollment requirements and exceptions.

For more information, review the Annual Vacation Quarter information online. If you are still unsure whether or not you qualify for the annual vacation quarter this summer, please complete the Have A Question web form and an ISS advisor will follow up.
