Instructions for Annual Drop: Deadline 11/12

Annual Drop & S/NS Grade Change Deadline is Tuesday, November 12

Are you considering dropping a course before the annual drop deadline?

Follow these steps:

1. Check if you qualify for a Full-Time Exception (according to J-1 rules)

Complete the ISS online Course Drop Eligibility Assessment

The webform will help you learn if you qualify for an exception to the J-1 full-time rule and will give you instructions depending on your situation.

2. Know the Office of the University Registrar’s Annual Drop Deadline: Nov 12

The Late Course Drop Period ends Tuesday, November 12. This deadline is for all UW students. It is separate from the J-1 rules.

3. Submit your ISS  Exception Request and Drop Form by November 12

Complete and follow the instructions in the ISS online Course Drop Eligibility Assessment by Tuesday, November 12.

Although ISS needs up to 10 business days for processing, we will coordinate with the Office of the University Registrar to assist with the drop as long as:

  • ISS receives your request by November 12
  • You qualify for one of the exceptions to the J-1 full-time rule

Questions? Visit iss.uw.edu and complete the “Have a Question” webform.

S/NS Grade Option Deadline

November 12 is also the last day to change to or from an S/NS grade option. A $20 fee will be assessed.

Changing your grade to the S/NS option does not affect your J-1 status.
