Form 8843 is Due July 15, 2020

Every international student (F and J status) has an obligation to complete a tax form once per year for the first five calendar years that you are in the U.S.

Glacier Tax Prep counts how many days you have been in the U.S. and determines if you are considered a resident or non-resident for tax purposes.

To determine your status and complete any form(s) you need to submit, log in to Glacier Tax Prep and complete STEP ONE.

If Glacier Tax Prep determines that you are a non-resident:

  • Complete STEPS TWO-FOUR.
  • Glacier Tax Prep will complete the required form 8843.
  • If you received no U.S. source of income in 2019 and you are considered a non-resident alien for tax purposes, you must file form 8843 by July 15, 2020.
  • If you are only submitting form 8843, you do not need to apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).

If Glacier Tax Prep determines that you are a resident for tax purposes:

  • You do not need to file a tax return as long as you did not work or earn wages in 2019.

ISS advisors are immigration experts only and cannot provide tax advice. If you have questions regarding how to use the software, see Glacier Tax Prep’s Tutorial Videos link on the welcome page of Glacier Tax Prep.
