The ISS Office is open all year, including the quarter breaks and summer quarter. We only close on weekends and for major holidays observed by the University. In the unusual case of a closure, we will post the information on our homepage or send an email.

Advising: Quick Question Reservations & 30-Minute Appointments

ISS provides visa and immigration advising to international students who are studying at the UW on an F-1 or J-1 student visa, and current UW students planning to change to F-1 or J-1 status.

Quick Question Reservations

    • 10-minute meeting or phone conversation with an ISS adviser (might not be your primary ISS adviser)
    • Sign up in advance online
    • The Quick Question adviser may refer you to schedule a 30-minute appointment another day with your primary ISS adviser if your situation is complex. See below for sample quick question topics.
    • Quick Questions related to alumni services, including post-completion training, should be scheduled using the Alumni Services Quick Question Calendar.

30-Minute Appointments

  • 30-minute meeting with your primary ISS adviser during office hours (10:00am – 4:00pm)
  • Recommended for complicated or ongoing matters
  • Phone appointments are okay if you do not live in the Seattle area.
  • How to schedule: online
  • ISS does not schedule same-day appointments
  • If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for an appointment, you will be asked to reschedule for another day. See below for appointment sample topics.

Alumni Services Appointments

  • 15-minute meetings with the Alumni Services Coordinator are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during office hours (10:00am – 4:oopm). Schedule here.

F-1 students are assigned a primary ISS adviser based on the first letter of their family name. All J-1 students are assigned a primary ISS adviser based on their program. The ISS advisers are available via phone and email during office hours. Due to the high volume of emails and calls, please allow 1-2 business days for your adviser to respond to you.
