ISS & ISHIP Summer Quarter Office Hours

Early Fall Start is here!

Some first year students have arrived on campus! Today, they had orientation with two members of the ISS advising team. We're excited to continue to welcome new students in the next few weeks.

Be Aware of SCAMS

Be careful. We are aware that many students have become victims of vicious scams. Remember that the U.S. government, foreign governments, and other organizations related to your immigration status will NEVER demand money or information and WILL NOT ask for private, secure information over the phone or email. It's ok to set up filters on your cell phone to ensure your safety.

WHAT STEPS DO I TAKE?
  • HANG UP; stop talking with the person asking you for money
  • DO NOT SEND MONEY or gift card information to strangers
  • DO NOT give them private data like your passport number, account info, parent's info, etc.
  • TELL someone you trust
  • REPORT it to the UW Police
  • ALERT your Consulate or Embassy and your family

CHANGES TO ISS ADVISING FOR AUTUMN QUARTER

ISS advisors are meeting with students for short 10-minute drop-ins during these late summer weeks. The current schedule offers limited availability, but starting autumn quarter, we have more advisors helping with drop-ins. You can plan ahead by reviewing our meet with an advisor webpage.

This week, in-person drop-in advising for F-1 students is from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. J-1 students can meet with an advisor on Thursday from 2-4 PM.

Group advising sessions on CPT, OPT, and STEM OPT are available starting Sept 30. We encourage all students who have basic questions on these topics join a group advising session before attending a drop-in advising session.

For the complete schedule - review the ISS Events Calendar.

SHIH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LOAN

The Shih International Student Loan is now open to both graduate and undergraduate students. The Shih International Student Loan intended to help international students finance their education and complete their degree objectives. Go to Shih International Graduate Student Loan for more details on the program.

TRAVEL SIGNATURE REMINDER

Continuing students need a valid travel signature to enter the U.S. this autumn. Please check your I-20 to see if you have a valid travel signature. Students still studying at UW need a valid travel signature less than 12 months old. Students on OPT or STEM need a travel signature less than 6 months old. If you're abroad and need a travel signature, please submit an online Travel Signature request through your MyISSS profile. If you're still residing in the U.S. please also see the in-person travel signature clinics we have available for autumn quarter.

UPDATING YOUR LOCAL & PERMANENT ADDRESS

Please make sure your local U.S. address and your permanent foreign address are correct and up to date. With the implementation of MyISSS, there have been changes to how to update your address. Here's what you need to know:
  • Report via MyUW: Current students should change your U.S./local address through your MyUW account. Any changes made to your local address will be updated system wide at the UW and will be reported to ISS so we can pass the information on to SEVIS per federal immigration requirements. You can also update your permanent address through MyUW. This no longer is required to be a foreign address and will be your permanent address in university systems for all UW specific matters, including after graduation.
  • Report via MyISSS: Use the 'Contact Information Update' request form to submit changes to your permanent foreign address. All students in the U.S. under the F and J visa categories are required to maintain a permanent address outside of the U.S. per federal regulations. Use the MyISSS portal to update changes to your permanent address outside the U.S. so ISS can pass it to SEVIS per federal regulations.
  • Students on OPT: Report changes to your local address directly to SEVIS using the SEVP portal. If you do not have access to the portal, use the MyISSS 'SEVP Portal Help' request to report your updated address to the ISS. We will pass it to SEVIS on your behalf. You can also use this same form to request help with the SEVP portal if you do not have a password or need to reset your password.
