Thanksgiving Holiday and Indigenous People's Day

To many Americans, Thanksgiving has a special meaning. People might spend time with family or friends, watch football, play games, decorate for upcoming winter holidays, or take long weekend trips. While many of us enjoy having time off for Thanksgiving, the U.S. has a complicated history with this holiday. To understand more, we encourage you to learn more about Indigenous People's Day, a holiday UW celebrates the Friday after Thanksgiving. And, if possible, spend some time with your friends as you settle in for your final few weeks of autumn quarter.

Introducing our new Assistant Director of Student Services and Compliance

Today is the first day of work for our new Assistant Director of Student Services and Compliance. Some of you might know Justin as he's served as an international student advisor with ISS for the past two years. Our team is happy to have him continue with ISS in his new leadership role. So, while you may not see Justin in drop-in advising anymore, know that he is behind the scenes supporting you!
Fun facts about Justin: he loves tennis, kimchi, and cats.

  • Stuffing -- Alisa Sweet, ISS advisor
  • Stuffing with gravy, cranberry, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream -- Ed Farnham, ISS program assistant
  • Pecan pie and enchiladas -- Leana de la Torre, ISS advisor
  • Pistacchio pudding -- Sharece Bunn, ISS assistant director
