NEW THIS WEEK

The first few weeks of the quarter are always a busy time - for students and staff alike! We hope that you are enjoying your new classes and that the term is off to a smooth start for you. This week, we want to highlight a process change for dropping courses.

LATE COURSE DROP PERIOD & THE ADVISOR ASSISTED DROP

Week 3 of the quarter marks the beginning of the Late Course Drop period. This means that there are additional steps involved if you need to drop courses.

You now have two options:
Please review the detailed instructions on the university registrar's website for more information.

IMMUNIZATION & VACCINATION VERIFICATION DEADLINE

All first-time students, regardless of where they live, must meet the UW Tri-Campus Immunity Verification Requirement by the first day of their first UW quarter. The requirement protects our community from outbreaks of these infectious diseases: measles, mumps and meningitis ACWY. In getting vaccinated against these diseases, you shield other community members who are unable to be vaccinated due to age, pregnancy or medical issues.

The deadline to submit your immunization records is fast approaching - if you have not satisfied this requirement by November 5th, a registration hold will be placed on your account, which will prevent you from registering for winter quarter 2022.

Note that this deadline is also the deadline to provide documentation of your vaccination against COVID-19.

REGISTER FULL TIME FOR AUTUMN QUARTER

If you are not already full-time or authorized for an exception, make sure to do so now.

If you are unable to enroll full-time, or want to take time off, please review the exceptions to full-time enrollment. Contact our office with additional questions about eligibility - you can complete our 'Contact Us' form, or book an appointment with an advisor.

If you will graduate this quarter, make sure to review the final year checklist - there is still time to apply for OPT, apply to transfer to a new program, or make other plans.

VACCINATION STATUS VERIFICATION - DEADLINE APPROACHING!

In an email to UW community members on July 7, UW President Cauce and Provost Richards shared updated guidance about campus operations and provided instructions for vaccination status verification. If you are a student who is also an employee at the UW, note that you will be required to complete the student attestation as well as the employee attestation.

Here are the key points:
  • Updated 8/13/2021: All campus community members are required to wear masks or other face coverings when indoors.
  • Based on Washington State guidance, physical distancing and capacity limits are no longer in place.
  • Students, Faculty and Staff must verify their vaccination status. Students must provide vaccination information by the start of autumn quarter. Do so using the student COVID-19 vaccine attestation form.
  • If you are not yet vaccinated, your deadline to provide vaccination status verification is November 5, 2021.
  • A hold will be placed on winter quarter registrations if the form has not been submitted by November 5, 2021.

WORKING ON CAMPUS?

Many students will find on-campus employment at the start of the academic year. As an F-1 or J-1 student, be sure to review the rules that cover the basics of on-campus employment for your visa category.

Here are some helpful links:

CHANGE OF MAJOR I-20S

If you have a major change effective for autumn quarter, please note that we will begin emailing out the major update I-20s between week 4-6. As a reminder, students do not need to contact ISS to request an update to the I-20 with new major or minor information — it will happen automatically. If your major change is in effect for summer, a new I-20 is usually available by the 6th week of the quarter.

SIGN UP FOR UW ALERT

The University of Washington has developed UW Alert to disseminate information via email, text messages, loudspeakers, website banners and other means, as needed, to keep the campus community informed during emergencies and situations that might disrupt normal operations.

We strongly encourage all students to sign up for UW Alert today!
