Graduate Degree Late Fee

In general, international students must maintain a full-time credit load (typically 10 credits for graduate students) for three consecutive quarters in each academic year, with the exception of their final quarter, during which they may enroll for only those credits required for graduation. This immigration requirement makes most international students ineligible to use the Graduate Degree Late Fee since they would not be registered during the quarter they receive their degree.

Some international students apply for a training opportunity which follows the completion of their degree program. This period of training is called Optional Practical Training for F-1 students or Academic Training for J-1 students. If students have applied for such training, they may be eligible to use the Graduate Degree Late Fee since their application maintains their immigration status. Students who have not applied for such training are ineligible to use this policy.

Advisers in the Office of International Students and Scholars are available to collaborate with academic advisers and other administrative staff to answer any questions and to determine eligibility for this policy.
