About Us

International Student Services (ISS)

ISS provides visa and immigration advising to international students who are at the UW on an F or J student visa.

Office Hours

The ISS front desk is open Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 4:00pm. We do not close for lunch.  ISS is located in Schmitz Hall 459.

The ISS Office is open all year, including the quarter breaks and summer quarter. We only close on weekends and for major holidays observed by the University. In the unusual case of a closure, we will post the information on our homepage or send an email.

Students wishing to submit requests or paperwork to an ISS adviser should submit the paperwork to the front desk receptionist during office hours.

To meet with an adviser, visit ISS during drop-in advising hours or schedule an appointment.

Drop-in Advising

Drop-in advising is available Monday – Friday, 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Sign up for drop-in advising at the ISS front desk in Schmitz Hall 459.  Drop-in advising is for a quick 10 minute meeting with an ISS adviser and is offered on a first come, first served basis.

No prior appointment is necessary. Drop-in advising is available to all F-1 and J-1 students studying at the University of Washington.

ISS advisers are scheduled for drop-in advising on a rotating basis. Students are not required to see their primary adviser during drop-in advising. The drop-in adviser may refer you to schedule an appointment with your primary adviser if your situation is complex.

Appointments

If you wish to see an ISS adviser for a complicated or ongoing matter, you can schedule an appointment with your primary adviser at the ISS front desk in person, by phone, or by email (uwiss@uw.edu). Appointments are for 30 minute meetings with your primary adviser during office hours (10:00am – 4:00pm).

ISS does not schedule same-day appointments. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for an appointment, you will be asked to reschedule for another day.
